Industrial effluent Recycling process water & discharges of hazardous substances

A major
challenge for
industries

Following recent evolution for any water discharged to the environment, consent limits for hazardous substances and numerous micropollutants have been strengthened. Recent efforts have been made to improve the quality of the aquatic environment, specifically in identifying hazardous substances in discharge stream, establishing permanent monitoring and measuring to gradually reduce emissions.

An innovative approach

All industries which may discharge large volumes of these hazardous substances, are concerned and are seeking to comply with emission limit values, keeping the associated cost acceptable. The issue is often a complex one, as when it comes to recently monitored substances (biocides and phytosanitary products, for example), treatments have not always been fully mastered.

Therefore, CTP environnement is conducting tests and dynamic on-site pilot operations in order to devise solutions and develop the appropriate technologies.

Depending on the site’s location and access to the discharge point, industrial operators may then decide whether to discharge into the natural environment or to recycle the treated stream using specific applications, to reduce the environmental footprint of their activities, while keeping raw product consumption low.

Highlight on the pilot UF+RO unit

CTP environnement is continuously challenging itself to identify the most suitable techniques for complying with regulatory evolution. The purpose of the tests conducted is to provide the best technico-economic compromise between several processes: activated carbon, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, etc.

The pilot UF+RO filtration unit has been specifically developed to remove trace metals into a surface treatment workshop wastewater stream, as well as to deal with bisphenols and by-products of the textile industry.

CTP environnement’s results has been used to develop an accurate technical tender before making a substantial investment (construction or revamping of the site wastewater treatment plant)

Metal reduction pilot test

Reducing traces of nickel, copper, zinc and aluminium from an industrial water treatment plant.

A major French automotive group asked CTP environnement to identify the best available technology for treating their treated effluent. The goal was to be compliant with requirements governing discharges of hazardous substances into water (French RSDE regulation), especially the metals traces.

CTP environnement was approached for a pilot project financed by the French water agency, with delegated project management, to treat the lagoon located at the edge of the site, which collected mine water, rainwater, cooling circuit purges, tertiary effluents and laboratory effluents.
